THE CURRICULUM CASE

From Passion to Purpose.

There is a difference between community service and service learning. Community service asks young people to do something. Service learning asks them to understand why it matters.

Origins of Play is built on that distinction.

It is not a sport programme. It is a learning experience that uses sport as its lens. The sport your young leaders are passionate about is the entry point. What they find inside it is something they will carry far beyond the classroom.

The moment we are in calls for something more than content delivery - it demands a grounding. Origins of Play is that grounding.

THE IMAGINATION GAP

What young leaders are searching for.

Across nearly a decade of work with young people aged 15 to 17 representing 60+ countries, we have seen the same pattern: a gap between the passion young leaders have for sport and their ability to articulate why it matters.

It is not a lack of potential. It is a lack of opportunity for meaning-making. Origins of Play offers sport as inquiry — not instead of sport as activity, but alongside it. The two sit comfortably together. The combination is more powerful than either alone.

Young people are passionate about sport. Fiercely so. But very few can articulate why it matters - to them, to their communities, to the world they are inheriting. Origins of Play was built to address that gap.

LOW-LIFT ENRICHMENT TOOL

Not just for the learner, for the coordinator.

We designed Origins of Play to be as straightforward for you to run as it is meaningful for your students. Get in touch to discuss specific mapping for your school's context.

IB CAS

Origins of Play maps to CAS across the creativity, activity, and service strands. Module 5 - Enacting Change Through Sport - directly serves the service strand, with young leaders researching and profiling a real sport-for-development organisation in their own community. The Playbook exports as portfolio evidence, formatted and ready to submit.

ROUND SQUARE

The programme maps to Round Square's pillars of internationalism, environment, leadership, service, adventure, and democracy. Module 2's global reach across ancestral games, Module 3's SDG alignment, and Module 6's leadership reflection make Origins of Play a natural fit for Round Square programming throughout the year.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Origins of Play journey, combined with the Playbook as a record of sustained reflection, provides documented evidence for the voluntary and skill sections of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The programme runs across two, four, or six weeks, fitting naturally within DoE activity period requirements.

HOW IT WORKS FOR SCHOOLS

Practical from the first step.

Schools enrol as a cohort. Young leaders begin independently. You stay in control without managing anyone individually.

  • Group access is purchased by a coordinator

  • A group code is issued upon enrolment

  • Young leaders enter the code at sign-up and join the cohort

  • Coordinator dashboard shows completion progress across the group, with Playbook submissions visible for review when learners indicate readiness

  • A single CSV export is available for school reporting

Pricing:   Origins of Play is priced at $19.99 USD per person (2–9 students)  ·  $14.99 USD per person (groups of 10 or more)

For schools running Origins of Play across a whole year group, or wanting to explore a bespoke arrangement, please get in touch directly.

SAFEGUARDING AND DATA PROTECTION

Answers before you need to ask.

We appreciate that safeguarding and data protection are not a checkbox for international schools. They are a governing priority, a parental expectation, and, in many contexts, a regulatory requirement. We have designed Origins of Play with that in mind, and we are happy to discuss any specific requirement your school has before you commit to anything.
